Program Description
At 9 a.m., you will meet CMM educators at Cove Point Lighthouse. The program leader will teach a short lesson on local Miocene fossils and what to look for. From 9:30 a.m. to about 11:30 a.m., you will explore the beach and search for fossilized shell, bone, and shark teeth. After fossil collecting, you will work with the museum educator to identify any fossils you have found. The program ends at noon.
Wear appropriate clothing for beach combing,(don't forget water shoes) and bringing a change of clothes is recommended. If you have any sifters or other tools you use for fossil hunting we encourage you to bring them. Please bring you own water bottles as there isn't a drinking water source at the program site.
A visit to the Calvert Marine Museum pairs well with this program.
