It was here in Solomons, Maryland that the U.S. Marine Corps trained some of its troops that later landed on the Solomon Islands in the Pacific; it was here, also, that the U.S. Army gained the experience necessary for the successful landings on Normandy Beach in France. This publication relates the history of this important but little-known base from which so much history was made.
