Solomons Maritime Festival

Building on the successful Chesapeake Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show, the festival will takes place on the museum’s scenic waterfront campus. The Antique Boat and Marine Engine Show features exhibits from over 60 collectors of antique and classic boats, and vintage marine outboard and inboard engines.
The Solomons Maritime Festival comes alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of Southern Maryland traditions. Taste traditional foods, learn how to pick crabs and shuck oysters like the pros, enjoy local gospel and old time music, hear world class water fowl calling, see Chesapeake Bay retriever trials in action, watch model boats skim the waters of the boat basin, talk with traditional crafts people as they demonstrate their skills. For the kids, there will be traditional games, races, ice cream making, toy boat building and more.

Military personnel trained at this little known but highly important training facility, then went on to see action in Europe and the South Pacific. Ironically, this included amphibious assaults in the Solomon Islands of the South Pacific, an island group slightly smaller than the State of Maryland. Cradle of Invasion History Website _________________________________________________________ Patuxent River Appreciation Days Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, 2008
Patuxent River Appreciation Days (PRAD) is an annual festival, which creates awareness, recognition, and promotion of the economic, social, recreational, cultural and historical impact of the tributaries and environs of the Patuxent River and the basin through which it flows. The festival is held annually on Columbus Day Weekend.
The festival brings together, and reflects the continuing commitment of, the community, county and state government agencies, the Calvert Marine Museum, the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, and other historical and environmental groups, which share a desire to preserve the Patuxent River and to celebrate its positive influence on the area’s quality of life, in the past, present, and future. By bringing these people together in a public forum annually, PRAD hopes to continue the interest in and support of the environmental programs and tourism activities surrounding the Patuxent River and its tributaries.
