MARITME HISTORY COMES ALIVE ON HOMESCHOOL DAY

The Calvert Marine Museum Spring 2017 Homeschool Day will be on Wednesday, March 15, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Maritime History Comes Alive! is designed for children age nine through 15, but all ages can discover something new. Fee is $2 per child, plus museum admission.

The museum’s Maritime History Gallery spans human habitation along the Patuxent River from the Patuxent Indians to modern times. Homeschool participants will meet costumed interpreters portraying John Price, a 17th century surveyor, and a lighthouse keeper’s wife who shares stories about living in a lighthouse. Interactive highlight tours include Black Watermen of the Patuxent and a special program about Pearl Harbor and the role Calvert County played in World War II. Children will have an opportunity to learn about the importance of the oyster fishery to this region, and why Chesapeake work boats are designed the way they are. Games, role play, and hands-on activities ensure that participants will enjoy the experience and pick up some important facts about local history.

Visit www.calvertmarinemuseum.com/182/Homeschool for more details and the full schedule. No pre-registration required.
